The other day I went to see a friend in Breukelen, not far from Utrecht. Thanks to the rather decent Dutch public transport system it took me about an hour and a half to get there.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't too good but the sight of Nijenrode castle, near my friend's place made up for that

From the local trainstation I spotted a windmill:

The weather had improved by the time I got home in Amsterdam where the sun was setting behind a local park

and canal:

Waiting on a train sometimes opens my mind to creating short stories or poems. Here's one:

Standing on the platform (a #poem)

Standing on the platform,

watching the tail lights of the last train

become smaller in the distance

In the pockets an empty phone

and keys to a place

that once felt like home

to many memories

Gazing into a tunnel as dark

as thoughts left behind

waiting idly - and perhaps in vain - 

to be taken to a next destination while

standing on the platform
