My regular English blog is here.
Every SWF-picture published here is shot with my trusty Google Pixel 7 smartphone and unedited, unless stated otherwise.

Here's a unique view of the appartment building in which I rent an appartment. "Wait! Only two car parking spaces for eight appartments!?" For sixteen, actually. Yes, having a car in Amsterdam is not very practical. There's also a large underground parking garage at some ten minutes walk, situated under a community swimming pool. And it's a 'Tri State Area', meaning everything one could need is within 15 minutes by foot, by bike or public transport: a bar, the dentist, a grocery shop, another bar, a bakery, coffee houses, a diy shop... It baffles me that so many people are against the idea of everything closeby and would rather be in their car for three hours a day.
The few pictures in this Skywatch blog today were shot within a circle of a few hundred metres, just outside Amsterdam city center. The place I call home:
Taken from a bridge I cross coming home:
The community garden between two blocks. I live on one side, the mothers of my children lived on the other side and I regularly go for tea or groceries with an elderly neighbour who resides in the appartment where my youngest was born.

Was suffering from a bit of melancholia when writing this piece of prose:
Not Today (a #poem)
They call me
in the middle of the night
but it's really daybreak
and they wake me up
to start a new day
But as soon as I realise
a new day has started
I want the day
to be in my past
To leave behind
the pain and sorrow
Until I remember
I will see you again
some day
that's just not
today

I love the photo from the bridge. Where I live is similar (Southern CA). People love their cars and independence to drive where and when they want, even though parking is difficult and traffic is terrible.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe US used to have quite a network of trams and buses in all major cities but the car (read 'oil') industry unfortunately proved very influential. Have been to 'Cali' only once as a child and visited relatives in places like Pasadena and Glendora. Oh, and as a young adult I back packed through the US and visited friends in Hollywood. Really want to visit again some day.
VerwijderenLovely sky photos.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWonderful photos. I love the idea of having everything close by and access to mass transit. Cars are expensive.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThanks! Not having to go far for every basic need is indeed really nice. I have my licence but really don't need a car.
VerwijderenCute little poem. Have a great September.

Thanks and likewise!
