Wednesday March 18th 2026 was a beautiful day to go out and vote in the local elections in The Netherlands. A neighbour and I picked a nice location to do so. At less than 15 minutes walk from our place there's De Otter, a wood saw mill, built in 1631 and still working.
Once the clever device stood at the edge of town; from the 1900s on the city expanded westward
When I step out my front door, I can see the Westerchurch in the distance, at about a mile away. Its bells were a sign of hope for young Anne Frank who was hiding in a nearby attic
The birds flying over a local canal near sunset reminded me of a Dutch song from the eighties: "Over de Muur" (Over the Wall). About the Berlin Wall and what it still represents: "Only the birds are truly free. On one side of the wall people live under the spell of Stalin and Marx; on the other side they are controlled my Mercedes and Coca Cola."

This week's piece of prose could maybe considered a rap. Anyway, I was inspired by current world events:
Under the Rug (a #poem)
Death and destruction
a live insurrection
A day flies by
like a bomb in a shelter
and a man in diapers
calls in more snipers
to lay down the lives
of points of data
throwing back knives
while his friends just hate'ya
We turn up the music
'cause don't want to see
the cynic who's graphic
while a child becomes a relic
and they kill another medic
The phoenix can't arise
because the ashes are swept
under the rug
